On the Way to "Betty's"
Not so very long ago, I was a guest on Elliot Simon's "Common Sense" radio broadcast from Shepherd University. I also had accepted his invitation to join him earlier that morning for breakfast at the local "Betty's" restaurant.
And so it was that morning, while walking through the West Virginia village of Shepherdstown, that an elderly couple crossed my path.
They were holding hands while they were taking their morning stroll, which prompted me to compliment them on their mutual affection. With a twinkle in his eye, the old gentleman smiled, then gently pointed out to me that they held hands to keep each other from stumbling. What a wondrous example they were and are, a life lesson for all of us. The LDS Church hymns, "Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel" and simply "Do What is Right",also teach us to do this in all of our activities and relationships.
